Deep in the lush West Sussex countryside, the Selden Barn wedding venue nestles in a lovely rural idyll in the South Downs National Park, surrounded by forests, fields and the area’s signature flint and brick-walled cottages. There’s a fab east-facing patio terrace looking out across fields of grazing horses and Patching Village itself, set like a tiny jewel between Worthing and Arundel, is quite simply stunning.
Better still the venue is family run, so the service you get is personal, friendly and warm as well as professional. What a lovely atmosphere the place has! And the ancient ceremony room is very special indeed, packed with history and about as romantic as it gets.
Selden Barn wedding venue – Secret, beautiful, elegant
Ryan and his male friends arrived in a cool Rolls Royce, complete with sunglasses, and the girls got themselves ready on-site in the cottage, which is really convenient. Both the ceremony and the reception took place at the Barn itself and because the groom is a keen guitar player, he and his band performed live at the Reception that night.
As a professional wedding photographer, Sussex provides some brilliant venues and this one is unforgettable. Secreted down a winding country lane, the barn itself has plenty of the all-important wow factor, all 300 square meters of it. The interior is cleverly swathed in pleated ivory drapery and swags with dazzling chandeliers, a dining area and raised dance floor with mirror balls. The east window looks out onto a breathtaking Sussex view, with wild deer often in plain sight, and elegant central pillars add to the exclusive yet intimate atmosphere. What a wonderful space, perfect for wedding photography.
Controllable up-lighters let you change the mood as the day ends and the evening begins, and there are picturesque gardens where you can have your pre-reception drinks. With room for as many as 230 people I can see why it’s such a popular Sussex wedding venue choice.
I work hard to make sure the wedding photos I take reflect the people, the way they feel about one another and the practical aspects of their big day accurately, creatively and with real human warmth. And this day was no exception. It certainly makes my job easier when couples choose such a spectacularly pretty wedding venue!
